Ron Bernal

Board Member

Ron joined NEA in 2010 as a Venture Partner focused on information technology and energy technology investments. Prior to joining NEA, Ron was a Partner at Sequel Venture Partners where he focused on cleantech, enterprise infrastructure and enterprise software investments. While at Sequel, he led the firm's investment in HelioVolt and Buzzwire. Ron previously served as a Venture Partner at Sutter Hill Ventures, where he led the firm's investments in Data Domain, Drobo, ProStor, LifeSize, Indicative and Redseal. Prior to joining Sutter Hill Ventures, Ron worked for Cisco Systems as Vice President of Operations for the Product Technology Groups and the Service Provider Line of Business. He joined Cisco following the acquisition of Growth Networks in 2000, where he was President and CEO. Ron co-founded Growth Networks, a fabless Internet switching fabric semiconductor company, in 1998 while serving as an entrepreneur-in-residence at NEA. Prior to working with NEA, he spent more than seven years with Silicon Graphics, Inc. (SGI) in roles of increasing responsibility, including Senior Vice president and General Manager of the $1 billion-plus server division and President of the MIPS group, the microprocessor subsidiary of SGI. Ron was also Vice President of Engineering and COO of Edge Computer, a computer company he co-founded in 1983. Ron is also a director of Boulder Wind Power and ProStor. Previous board memberships include Data Domain (acquired by EMC), HelioVolt, LifeSize (acquired by Logitech), Indicative (acquired by Nimsoft) and Redseal.

A strong advocate of alternative energy technologies, Ron is a founding member and chairman of the Colorado Cleantech Industry Association and serves on the board of the Rocky Mountain Cleantech Open. He holds a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from DeVry Institute of Technology.

Ron E. F. Codd

Ron is an independent consultant and corporate director with 30 years of experience working with high technology, high growth firms in financial and general management roles. From late 2007 to early 2008, he was the Interim CEO of UltraCell Corporation, a designer, manufacturer and marketer of micro fuel cells. From 1999 to 2002, he was the the President and CEO of Momentum Business Applications, Inc., a software development company specializing in the development of analytic, e-business, and industry-specific application software. From 1991 to 1998, he was the CFO and SVP Finance and Administration for PeopleSoft, Inc. During his 7-year tenure at PeopleSoft, he managed PeopleSoft’s successful Initial Public Offering in 1992 and oversaw its growth in annualized revenues from $15 million to $1.5 billion. Prior to that, he held a series of senior management positions with MIPS Computer Systems, Wyse Technology, and Tandem Computers.

Ron has a Masters in Management from the J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University and a B.S. in Business from the University of California, Berkeley. He has earned the following credentials: Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Managerial Accountant (CMA), and Certified Production and Inventory Management (CPIM). He is a member of the adjunct faculty of Golden Gate University.
